	There is no subject taught to which the principles of objective teaching can be more easily or more success-" fully applied than that of music. The actual objects of thought are always at hand. Sounds must be as clearly presented and named to the mind as colors. Music stands sadly in need of teaching-power. In our schools music should be taught in its simplicity as an art, and not in its complexity as a science. It can be so simplified and symmetrically arranged that the teaching ability of the regular teacher, who knows little of it as a science, can be employed. Skillful supervision will always be in demand; but while music is regarded as a special study, to be taught only by spe-	cial teachers, the best results will not be obtained. la training children to think sounds in pitch, we must work with the real sounds continually. If we would train children to sing in time, we must first teach them to think and feel the rhythm accurately. The real ob�jects of thought in rhythm are pulsations or accents that must be felt and cannot be conveyed to the mind thro* the eye. Pulsations and the different combinations of lengths of sounds must be indicated to the mind thro' the senses of hearing and feeling, and there is no other way. The quality of musical food given to children to develop a true musical taste is important. They should become familiar with all harmonies by singing them.
